Madagascar - April 2017

News mada 0417

In Madagascar, Man and Nature and Helpsimus work together around the Ranomafana National Park to protect the Greater Bamboo Lemur. This species is classified as Critically Endangered (CR) on the IUCN Red List. Thanks to the efforts of the partner NGO, 53 births were recorded on the project site in 2016.

In 4 years, the number of births has been multiplied by more than 2.5 and the size of the population monitored has almost tripled!

Moreover, during the last visit, a new species of lemur was observed. This is the Peyrieras’ avahi (classified as vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List)!

These excellent results prove once again the success of this program.
