Man & Nature provides technical and financial support to Southern Civil Society Organizations in the implementation of projects linking human development and biodiversity conservation.

 


aafebemThe NGO AAFEBEN works in the eastern outskirts of the Dja Biosphere Reserve with 10 community forests. It supports 10 groups comprising of 350 women from the Baka (Pygmies) and Bantu ethnic groups to collect and sell forest products such as wild mangoes and Moabi. It aims primarily to encourage women entrepreneurship projects with a focus on on ethnic minorities.

The association Amanar was set up in 2009 under the Moroccan law and supports small farmers to develop local products (argan, honey, cactus, saffron, rose, aromatic and medicinal plants, date palm), and their natural and cultural heritage (namely Berber heritage).

Aroma Forest is an innovative social business that has been supplying essential oil to major customers for about ten years. Aroma Forest aims at improving the livelihood of the local population in the region they are sourcing from and at supporting natural resources conservation. In order to obtain a regular supply and guarantee the quality of the finished products, Aroma Forest set up in 2015 a distillation site in the village of Andrafia, in Madagascar.

Awely, Wildlife and People is an international organization based in France, which has been working for more than ten years to protect endangered wildlife and to improve the lives of local communities in Africa and in Asia. In all of its programs, men and women are placed at the heart of the actions, because improving the situation of impoverished people who live in close contact with animals is the only way to make an effective long-term contribution to biodiversity conservation.

CAMGEW (Cameroon Gender and Environment Watch) is a Cameroonian NGO created in 2007. It carries out projects to protect biodiversity while 

strengthening the capacities of local communities, especially those of women and young people. Its objective is to protect Kilum Ijim forests as a whole by developing beekeeping.

Created in 2011, Envol Vert is a French association whose goal is to protect forests and biodiversity in the planet’s most disadvantaged countries as well as in France. They work in partnership with local communities, supporting their conservation projects and helping them to develop new economic alternatives to deforestation.

The Cameroonian NGO ERuDeF (the Environment and Rural Development Foundation) has been created in 1999. Its mission is to conserve biodiversity and to protect sensitive ecosystems through research, training, education and community involvement.


logo fanambyCreated in 1997 by a group of scientists and experts in conservation and development, the NGO FANAMBY works for the preservation of natural resources by involving all actors and stakeholders, especially communities, throughout the process of sustainable management and local development in Madagascar.

Created in 2010, the French NGO Gazelle Harambee aims to help the most vulnerable people on the African continent, to support and promote their sustainable development projects with respect for people, their culture and the environment. It develops economic projects enabling local populations to improve their living conditions while preserving ecosystems. 

 


helpsimusThe French Association for the Safeguard of the Greater Bamboo Lemur (AFSGH) or HELPSIMUS was created in October 2009. Its mission is to safeguard the Greater Bamboo Lemur (Prolemur simus) in Madagascar by implementing conservation programs that combine scientific monitoring of the species, protection of its habitat, assistance for the development of the villages bordering groups of greater bamboo lemurs and financing the children education.

Created in 1993, l’Homme et l’Environnement is a non-governmental organization registered in Madagascar. It has been working to develop projects that improve the living conditions of local populations, while protecting biodiversity.

The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) has been a pioneer for conservation in the country since its creation in 1940, due to its actions for housing environments’ conservation and environmental education. The efforts deployed by its members, its partners and its supporters transformed MNS into a platform renowned for the protection of the natural heritage of Malaysia. MNS works hard to ensure that this heritage and the wealth of the Malaysian biological diversity are protected, well managed and kept by and for the local communities.

Nature et Développement (NatuDev) is a Burkinabe association whose mission is to promote approaches that integrate nature conservation and the development of local populations. His Chairman, Alexis Kabore, has a great experience in this area especially in supporting communities to create and manage Community Resource Management Areas.

Nebeday is a Senegalese NGO created in 2001 that promotes participatory management of natural resources by and for the benefit of local communities. Its objective is to help people protect resources and to enhance resources’ value by developing environment-friendly income-generating activities.

PRASAD Chikitsa
 is a Public Charitable Trust, registered in India, and it is a licensee of The PRASAD Project, a Non-Government Organization (NGO) in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. PRASAD works in a catchment area of 25 kms radius of its head office in Ganeshpuri. This area has a population of approximately 200,000 people. The organization supports these rural communities by providing medical care (a hospital and a mobile medical clinic) and community development, including organic farming.

Its purpose is to stand for small businesses’ interests, as well as to develop integrated small business empowerment activities in all sectors of the economy.

The Cameroonian NGO TF-RD (Tropical Forest and Rural Development), created in 2005, works on the northern outskirts of the Dja Biosphere Reserve in Cameroon. As part of its objective of protecting the Reserve, it helps farmers intensify cocoa production and develop non-timber forest products in the area. TF-RD works with 160 farmers in the area, including 50 women, supports their organization into cooperatives and builds their technical capacities.

WAPCA (West African Primate Conservation Action) was created in 2001 by employees of different European zoological parks with the objective to conserve endangered primate species in Western Africa, through community development and education. The Ghanaian branch was created in 2005.
